While we absolutely love the new Ferrari 458, which is, according to some, the best Ferrari ever made, there is a growing concern about the build quality of the car. Specifically, the heat shield around the engine is said to be defective, as a dozen 458s have gone up in fire in the last few months — all fires started in the engine compartment.
Ferrari hasn’t made any official announcements, but rumor says that they’re “worried” about the latest developments, and are testing a new heat shield around the exhaust and the manifold. the 458 features a powerful 4.5 liter V8 which delivers 560 HP — and plenty of heat.
It’s unknown whether Ferrari will issue a recall at the point, but it would seem fairly important that customer’s $260,000 supercar doesn’t catch a fire. Luckily, in the dozen or so fires that have plagued the 458s, no one has been injured.
A few months ago, Ferrari competitor Lamborghini issued a recall of the Murcielago over the same issue: fire in the engine compartment, due to a fuel leak.

Could the 8-cylinder Lamborghini Presa become a real production car?
The Lamborghini Presa is a concept car featuring a front-engine design by the trio Mohamad Monfared, Alireza Sahragard, and Arian Moqbeli. Meant to go after other 8-cylinder GT cars in it’s class, it’s been told that the Presa could be straight competition to the Ferrari 599 GTB Fiorano.
